Wheels in Motion promotes motorcycle safety through training and knowledge.

Students:
The Experienced Rider Course is designed for experienced riders who want to increase knowledge and skill on their own motorcycle. Students must have a valid motorcycle operator’s license and should have been riding six months or 3000 miles.

Curriculum:
The course stresses those skills which have been found to be most critical in accident-avoidance. There are lecture and films, but the greatest emphasis is on actual riding situations. No matter how long you’ve been riding, the advanced course will challenge your skills. You’ll learn higher speed maneuvering, quick swerving and obstacle avoidance techniques, countersteering, traction control, and emergency braking in a straight line, in curves and for slippery surfaces—skills you can use whether you’re touring cross-country or just riding down to the corner store. Instructors are MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) and DPS (Department of Public Safety) certified. Many insurance companies offer a 10% discount for three years following completion of the course. You may wish to download the Experienced RiderCourse Rider Classroom Cards used in this course and the Motorcycle Operator Manual.

Requirements:
This one-day course is taken on the student’s own motorcycle. Students must have a valid motorcycle operator’s license and have at least three solid months of recent riding experience which includes a variety of riding situations. MSF recommends six months or 3000 miles riding experience on the motorcycle you use in the course. The motorcycle must pass a safety inspection. Students must provide proof of insurance and protective clothing. Protective clothing includes a DOT approved helmet, boots or leather high tops over the ankles, gloves with fingers, eye protection, long sleeves, and long pants. Helmets are available. This course is $80.00 in Texas. Enrollment is limited to twelve students, and classes fill quickly.

Instructors:
There is no substitute for a good teacher. The instructors, trained and approved by MSF Chief Instructors, know their stuff. And, they make sure that you do too. They help you develop riding skills you can’t learn from family members or friends. Motorcycle safety instructors come from various backgrounds, but they all have three things in common: They’re professionally trained. They’ve been riding for several years. And, they want to see others enjoy the sport--and live to spread the word.
