Should I Learn From a Friend?
You may have a friend who is a good rider. Unfortunately, being a good rider doesn’t make one a good instructor. Spouses, significant others, and even friends tend to be less patient than professional instructors are.
Give yourself and your friend a break. Get your training from a professional, trained, MSF certified instructor who is experienced at teaching people to ride. Learn on our motorcyclenot yours. Enjoy learning in a safe, controlled environment, which is designed to allow you to learn the skills found lacking in the accident-involved rider.
In the Basic Rider Course you learn one skill at a time. Each exercise builds on skills already learned. Straight-line riding, handling curves, stopping, and swerving are all taught in this class. Advanced turning and braking are taught both in the classroom and on the range. The course is considered the equivalent of two years riding experience. Also taught are the street survival skills you need to survive on the streets. You will learn the mental strategies you need as well as the physical skills.
Years of study and work by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation have gone into designing a course that works well. Take advantage of all this research and labor to make your riding both safer and more fun.
The more you know, the better it gets.
Do I Get an Insurance Discount?
Most insurance companies offer a three-year 10% discount for taking either course. Check with your insurance company to see what discounts it offers.
